Behind the Thread: How We Create Our Designs at Nocturnal Club
At Nocturnal Club, every design begins with a vibe — a moment in the late-night hours when creativity hits differently. We're more than just another streetwear brand; we're a collective of night-driven artists who live and breathe design. From sketch to shirt, here's a deep dive into how we build the look and feel of Nocturnal Club.
1. It All Starts with the Concept
We don’t just throw ideas on a canvas. Every piece starts with a conversation — about what the piece represents, how it connects to our core nocturnal identity, and what emotion or moment we want to capture.
Our team often discusses:
-
Themes like isolation, peace, rebellion, and late-night energy
-
Japanese aesthetic influences
-
Urban culture, street motion, and minimal mystique
-
The meaning behind each drop — each has its own vibe
2. Sketching the Blueprint
Once we lock in the concept, our lead illustrator starts with hand-drawn sketches, usually on Procreate (iPad Pro) for portability and fluid creativity. These sketches are:
-
Raw, emotional, sometimes chaotic
-
Focused on shapes, symmetry, and symbolism
-
Inspired by ukiyo-e, minimal linework, and layered visuals
After several drafts and critiques, we move into Adobe Illustrator to create clean, scalable vector versions. We keep details tight and avoid clutter — every line must say something.
3. Digital Craftsmanship: Colors & Textures
This part of the process is where things get intentional.
We use:
-
Adobe Photoshop to blend layers, add grain, adjust shadow/light, and simulate aged textures
-
Color Theory discussions are constant: muted tones, navy, forest green, and moonlight beige are our go-tos. They speak to the night — nothing loud, all stealth.
-
All color palettes are tested on actual garment mockups using CLO 3D and Adobe Dimension so we see how designs sit on fabric, not just on screen.
We debate for hours over subtle tweaks:
-
Should the owl eye be 10% brighter?
-
Is that moon better offset or centered?
-
Does this shade of red look confident or aggressive?
4. Shirt Styles & Material Testing
Our blank garments are sourced from premium cotton blends with focus on:
-
Weight – we aim for mid-to-heavyweight tees and hoodies, ideal for structured falls
-
Fit – slightly oversized but not boxy, pre-washed for consistency
-
Feel – breathable but dense, works in all seasons
We test every design using mockup samples, both digital and printed. Nothing goes out unless we've touched it, worn it, and tested how it feels under streetlights.
5. Logos & Placement Debates
The Nocturnal Club logo went through over 15 iterations. We talked about:
-
Should the owl stare at you? Or past you?
-
Is the crescent moon a shelter or a symbol?
-
Serif or no serif? (Spoiler: no serif won.)
We place logos:
-
Left chest: classic, understated
-
Full back: for our art series drops
-
Inner collar tags and sleeve badges for exclusives
Logo sizing is scaled in Illustrator and tested on both M and XL mockups to ensure visual consistency.
6. Final Output & Drops
Once all visuals are approved:
-
We format print files in .AI and .PSD with full bleed and CMYK color profiles
-
Transfer artwork to screen printers or DTF platforms depending on the drop
-
For packaging, we design in Canva Pro and InDesign, including tags, care cards, and inserts
Each drop is limited. Each piece is intentional. Nothing is rushed.
Why We Do It
We're awake when others sleep. Our minds race while the world slows. Nocturnal Club was born from that late-night energy, and every shirt, hoodie, or accessory carries that DNA.
We're not just selling clothing — we’re telling stories from the quiet hours.
